Monday, October 17, 2011 at 10:06PM Bryan Singers Says a 'Battlestar Galactica' Movie is His Next
Perhaps, Warner Bros. acquiring another Knights of the Round Table movie (Arthur & Lancelot), thus ruining director Bryan Singer's plans for his own movie Excalibur was a huge blessing in disguise. Why you ask?
The King Arthur vehicle folding means we'll be seeing Singer's follow-up project, a Battlestar Galatica film adaptation sooner rather than later, according to SFX. The most recent TV series remake of the original late-1970's Battlestar Galatica had an extensive fan base, and many folks including myself were super bummed when the series ended after four outstanding seasons.
In a recent interview, Singer talked about Excalibur falling apart, and how that opened up the opportunity for him to follow-up his next film, Jack the Giant Killer, with the Battlestar Galatica remake. Here's what the director of X-Men and The Usual Suspects had to say.
"Yeah, unfortunately it's no longer going to happen. I was really enthused to do it. I'm a fan of John Boorman's movie and it was my intention to get it going after Jack the Giant Killer was completed. The project was with Warner Bros. and what is happened is that another King Arthur project was brought to them during that time. Basically, it was just more ready to go into production than ours was. That is why our version of Excalibur ended up being negated. But, when that happened, it allowed me to go straight into developing Battlestar Galatica--which I think will be really exciting."
Exciting is putting it lightly. A Battlestar Galactica movie is going to be freakin' epic, and I'll definitely camp out in a long line to see that one in theater when it opens. My only request is that they bring Edward James Olmos along for the ride, even if his character, Admiral Adama doesn't somehow end up in the script.
