Monday, October 17, 2011 at 10:14AM Warner Bros. Hands 'Cloverfield' Director 'Twilight Zone'?

Late last month Warner Bros. had a list of filmmakers in mind for the upcoming Twilight Zone reboot with Christopher Nolan at the top. Michael Bay, Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men, Gravity) and Ruper Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) were also reportedly being considered.
Now Matt Reeves, who directed Cloverfield and Let Me In has emerged as the front runner for the gig, and talks between the two sides are supposed to begin today. The film will be based upon the original Rod Serling (pictured above) TV series that aired from 1959-1964. It'll apparently bear no resemblance to the first movie adaptation (1983), which featured different stories told by directors like Steven Spielberg and John Landis (An American Werewolf in London, Animal House).
The new movie is instead being described as a "big science fiction action movie", which will share the same tone as the series. Interesting.
I loved the original series, especially the narration and show's opening. It's still extremely difficult for me to pass up The Twilight Zone marathon that the SyFy channel runs every New Year's Eve. I guess you could say I'm a dork who is very much looking forward to the new version. Cloverfield was a good flick, so there's reason for optimism with possibly having Reeves at the helm of The Twilight Zone.
Production is set to begin next summer.
