No Columbus or Tallahassee in Zombieland 2? Say it ain't so!With Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick choosing to write any non-zombie related scripts as of late, it's been unclear where that leaves a sequel until now. While there will most certainly be a Zombieland 2, it won't be coming out in theaters but rather into your living rooms instead? According to THR, Sony Pictures Television and Fox are teaming up to produce a half an hour comedy series based on Zombieland and are aiming to have it ready for the 2012-2013 broacast season.
It's safe to assume Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson and Emma Stone won't be reprising their characters for a TV adaptation, unless one of their acting careers takes a serious nose dive. The combination of Tallahassee (Harrelson) and Columbus (Eisenberg), along with director Ruben Fleischer (30 Minutes or Less), were big reasons behind what made Zombieland so great. It wasn't just the killing of zombies that led the movie to being a box-office hit.
The speculation is that because shows like The Walking Dead have made a successful TV run, a Zombieland sitcom would also net the same high rankings each week. Easier said than done. The Walking Dead was also created by the great Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile), and is now produced by the same producers as Dexter. That's a hard act to follow.
The only reason I have a sliver of hope for Zombieland developing into a decent TV series is Reese and Wernick will reportedly write the show's script. Otherwise, I just don't see this story translating as well on television.
