Sunday, October 23, 2011 at 10:05PM Mark Millar's 'War Heroes' His Next Big Screen Bound Comic
Life must be pretty damn sweet for Mark Millar (Kick-Ass, Wanted) with three of his comic titles being optioned for the big screen, and one more on the way. Millar's War Heroes is the latest to join Superior, The Secret Service and Nemesis as his comics-turned-potential movies, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Universal is negotiating for the rights at the moment and would prefer to have Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer write the screenplay. These two will also pen the Doctor Strange movie for Marvel.
War Heroes is the story of how the U.S. government creates a new military program that grants ordinary soldiers with super powers to make up for the decrease in recruiting numbers. This brilliant idea goes haywire when a few soldiers decide to split and form their own villainous group. One of their former allies must go out and stop them.
That brief synopsis has all the key ingredients to a movie right there: the heroes, the baddies and the plot line that brings them all together.
Millar may even reunite with Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn on Superior and The Secret Service. Vaughn directed X-Men: First Class this past summer, but isn't as gung ho as Millar about making a Kick-Ass 2. He may prefer to possibly write the script or produce the film if and when it's ever developed.
At least, Millar has seen two of the comics he's written become very successful feature film adaptations. He could have four more to follow soon. Clearly this dude has some talent, and the studios have taken notice.
