Producer Brian Grazer Says 'The Dark Tower' Movie is Coming

Funny how I presumed the film adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower was dead, when I mentioned it in regards to The Stand being directed by Ben Affleck last Friday.  Oddly enough, the announcement for that project seemed to spark life back into another possible big screen jump for The Dark Tower.  Producer Brian Grazer now says moviegoers can expect a Dark Tower film at a much lower budget with a much better ending, Indie Wire reports.

Back in July, the production was called off by Universal because the budget became too high (like The Lone Ranger recently), and the studio didn't agree with overall scope of the project.  They were opposed to The Dark Tower becoming a trilogy of films, bridging the last two together with a TV series.

Now, reportedly Grazer, Ron Howard and screeenwriter Akiva Goldsman have been working together to get the film back on track, cutting down the budget considerably.  That's when Indie Wire was able to grab a quick comment about the projects' new budget and ending from Grazer.  He admitted they were able to carve away about $45 million off of the production costs.

"In the $140 draft, the ending wasn't quite as satisfying.  Now, we've got $45, $50 million out of the way and a really satisfying ending.  It's gonna get made," Grazer said.

You heard it or read it here, straight from the horse's mouth, so these guys better follow through and give us this movie.

Who knows whether they're abandoning the idea of multiple movies or a TV series at this point?  I guess we'll have to find out for certain what the plan is.  At least, we now know (for the time being) that Howard and his peeps still have some interest in making The Dark Tower.
