Earlier in the year, there were rumblings of a new Dumb & Dumber. Now that the Farrelly Brothers have wrapped up production on The Three Stooges, reports are they will bring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels as Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne back for a Dumb & Dumber 2 as their next project.
The hit comedy, released in 1994 always seemed destined for a sequel, but Carrey became a huge star (not so much anymore) and the Farrellys went on to make other good comedies like There's Something About Mary and Kingpin, two of my favorites. The brothers did reunite with Carrey for Me, Myself & Irene, but that movie, while kinda funny didn't fill the void that a Dumb & Dumber sequel would have. And everyone remembers the ill-advised Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd prequel disaster.
Carrey hinted about a possible sequel during a promotion for Mr. Popper's Penguins last summer. The studio has just hired writers Sean Anders (Sex Drive, Hot Tub Time Machine) and John Morris to pen the new script. The pair also just co-directed the new Adam Sandler comedy I Hate You Dad.
It's now safe to assume the long awaited sequel is a go. I'm curious to see where Lloyd and Harry ended up almost 20 years after their first adventure to Aspen, and how the latter years have treated them. Does Lloyd still sport the bowl cut? Dumb & Dumber 2 will hopefully answer all the questions I have about the slow witted duo.
