Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 6:58PM 'Evil Dead' Remake Details Emerge to a Thunderous "Meh"
It seems like nothing is safe from being remade these days, even something as unique and beloved as Sam Raimi's low budget horror/dark comedy flick The Evil Dead. Raimi himself is producing the project, which gives fans some hope. Unfortunately the script is being written by Diablo Cody, whose last horror film, Jennifer's Body, did not impress. The newly released details don't give the fans that much more to be happy about. As previously revealed by Bruce Campbell himself, Ash will not be a character in the film.
On one hand, that might be a good thing, since I'm not sure how you could possibly recast Ash (I heard rumblings a few years back that Ashton Kutcher was up for the part. Ick.). On the other hand, that would be kind of like remaking Raiders of the Lost Ark without Indiana Jones. Nobody liked the first three Evil Dead movies because they had particularly interesting plots.
According to Cinema Blend, the remake still contains the Necronomicon (the Book of the Dead), as well as the deadites it spawns, but now features the teens venturing into the abandoned cabin so that one of them can break her addiction to drugs. Now doesn't that sound like fun?
The director of the project, newcomer Fede Alvarez, has quite a task in front of him. He'll have to be live up to the campy feel of the original, and make the film work in its own right. And all without the biggest aspect that made the series work in the first place.

In all 3 movies and in all the comics, Ash is the only one who can fight back the deadite army. I dont see how they can make a new movie without that character.
Im glad they arent recasting for Ash, but i think Bruce should at least have a cameo as Ash..... Im thinking he should show up near the end of the movie and save the day with his shotgun and chainsaw. Then, and only then will this be worth seeing.
