Monday, October 3, 2011 at 6:28PM Jack Bauer Says '24' Movie Script is Almost Finished

Word of a 24 movie adaptation has been in the supposed development stages for awhile. So, it should be reassuring when CTU super agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) himself says a feature film script is close to completion.
The Telegraph recently conducted an interview with Sutherland about the popular Fox series that spanned eight seasons, each episode including 24 hours of agent Bauer's hectic, action-packed day. One of the things he mentioned was how difficult it would be to cover just a 24 hour day in a movie, suggesting the format of the show will be changed for the movie.
"That's been the most difficult thing. You have to remember that we have 24 hours to explain the stories in 24 and so trying to condense that into a two-hour film version has been a real shift in gear for us. We were originally trying to make it too big and put too much into it--but once we relaxed, we found out how to tell that story. So yes we definitely do plan on making the film," Sutherland said.
It's unfortunate their switching up the format that made the show so appealing, though if they're doing it to avoid making a shitty movie; no problem. I have to trust their judgment over my own.
Two hours of Jack Bauer on the big screen will likely be amazing, and fellow fans of the series probably feel the same.
Are you excited for a 24 movie?

My first thought is that we don't need a 24 movie because the ending of the tv series felt totally right for me. My second thought is that I don't think a film is the right format for the show. When it was used as preparation for one of the seasons it was ok, but in this context.... unless.....
My first thought is the ending to Day 8 felt alot like a cliffhanger which is great but I felt like I watched half a movie. My second thought is give the movie or movies a chance before you Judge it. 24 like bond and bourne deserves a long franchise. Also despite the 8 season run of 24 Jack Bauer I feel after watching day 8 ending has alot more story to be told. There's alot more potential to explore which would make up for them cutting the series short.
There are other "days" between, before or after the 8 "days" the series covered, so there's plenty of opportunity for other stories and scenarios to play out. Yes, the iconic idea of playing everything out in 24 hours is moot in a two hour movie. They DID try playing things out in TWO hours with the movie "Redemption" that set up the events of season (Day) 7, so they COULD do something like that again. But the character of Jack Bauer - and Keifer Sutherland's intense portrayal of him - has made such an impression that - if they've got a good premise - it could carry the movie without them calling it "24: The Movie" - which Great Gort, I hope they don't. "24" was just THE post 9/11 catharsis show and I think there's still a lot of ticks left on the clock for it.
