Nicolas Winding Refn's 'Logan's Run' Remake Grabs a New Writer

Team Drive will be Team Logan's Run soon-ishWhen Drive came out last month and blew my mind, director Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling spoke about their planned Logan's Run remake a bit.  The two both mentioned the new Logan's Run wouldn't resemble the original 1976 film version at all, and now they've hired writer Andrew Baldwin (not a Baldwin brother) to draft the first script of the remake, THR reported.

Baldwin, in case you're like me and have never heard of him, was on the 2008 Black List with The West is Dead, and also wrote an un-produced project for Lionsgate called Red Asphalt.  So he's probably well known in some small circles.

It's no news that Refn is bringing along Gosling to star as his futuristic cop, who goes on the run when his state-ordered day of death comes up.  The director, writer and headlining star are locked in, and its been speculated that production will possibly begin next spring.

I guess I should've mentioned earlier that Team Drive will collaborate once more before the Logan's Run remake, for a film called Only God Forgives, which has just started pre-production.  Only God Forgives will take place in Thailand where "a Bangkok police lieutenant and a gangster settle their difference in a Thai-boxing match".  Ok that sounds awesome!

We should see this movie hit theaters in 2012, while Logan's Run is much further down the road.
