Every few years a new actor emerges, who I deem a rising star. I once made the claim with Topher Grace, which didn't exactly go as planned. Of course, I said the same thing about Shia LaBeouf and he's a huge movie star now.
Michael Angarano (Ceremony, Gentlemen Broncos) has that "it" factor, and he can put it on display in the new indie comedy The English Teacher. In Craig Zisk's film, Julianne Moore stars as a small town high school english star who falls for a former student (Angarano) after he fails to make it as a playwright in New York City. Greg Kinnear and Nathan Lane are also in the film, which is due out in 2012.
Angarano also does the older women fling in the Ceremony, as he plays an author of children's books who falls for Uma Thurman. It's quirky little comedy that I enjoyed. He had a more subtle role in Gentlemen Broncos by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite), which starred Flight of the Conchords Jemaine Clement as a world famous science fiction writer that Angarano attends a writing convention to see.
He has a couple of small roles in Red State and Steven Soderbergh's Haywire.
Michael Angarano will be big time soon enough. Consider yourselves warned.
