Friday, November 11, 2011 at 7:07AM Woody Harrelson Added to 'Seven Psychopaths' Cast
Months ago, I was excited to learn that part of the In Bruges crew, writer/director Martin McDonagh and Colin Farrell would team again for a new film called Seven Psychopaths. I became more psyched about the news of Sam Rockwell, Christopher Walken and Mickey Rourke joining Farrell in the cast. But no so fast, it turns out Rourke called McDonagh a "jerkoff" and up and quit the film, according to Deadline.
Now Zombieland star Woody Harrelson has stepped into the role vacated by Rourke. Two others, Tom Waits and Olga Kurylenko have signed on to the film as well, though their roles are unspecified for now.
Seven Psychopaths is the story of a down on his luck screenwriter (Farrell), who is friends with a couple of hooligans (Rockwell, Walken) that earn a living kidnapping dogs. One day the prized Shih Tzu of a local gangster (Harrelson) goes missing with everyone pointing fingers at the writer and his dog napper pals. The writer then uses this dramatic situation to provide the spark of creativity he desperately needs to finish a screenplay.
I'm a tad bummed that Rourke won't be portraying the big, bad gangster who owns the little dog, but you don't lose too much having Harrelson take over for him. Harrelson can be just as funny and intimidating as McDonagh will need him to be for Seven Psychopaths.
This film will mark McDonagh's sophmore effort, after In Bruges, so I definitely have high hopes for it. The comedy is slated for a 2012 release.
