Mostly known for starring in bad rom coms and even worse action films, Channing Tatum just wrapped production on Magic Mike with Steven Soderbergh, and it could be a career changer. In fact, the actor must've made a great impression, because Soderbergh is now considering him for the lead in his next movie The Man from U.N.C.L.E., according to Deadline.
This is a lead role that was originally being reserved for George Clooney but he turned it down, as did Bradley Cooper who was in negotiations to replace Clooney. Now, the focus has shifted on to Tatum for the time being.
If Tatum grabs the part he will play U.N.C.L.E. agent Napoleon Solo, a role held by Robert Vaughn when the show aired on television from 1964-68. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (United Network Command for Law Enforcement) was about two agents Napoleon Solo and Illyan Kuryakin who would fight against the enemies of peace, mostly an evil organization called THRUSH. Rumors have Warrior star Joel Edgerton slotted to play Illyan Kuryakin, opposite of Tatum, if he signs on.
I was hoping previous reports about Alexander Skarsgard being one of many actors up for a part in the film would come to fruition. It's still early in the casting process, considering they're just now talking about Tatum for the lead, so maybe Skarsgard will get another look soon. I'm crossing my fingers.
