Monday, November 14, 2011 at 10:33AM Full Trailer for 'The Hunger Games' Released

On a plane from Seattle to South Carolina, I started and finished the first novel in Suzanne Collins' trilogy. Although not thoroughly impressed with the story since it is not a particularly new idea which has been done better before, I was still captivated by Katniss, Peeta, and the rest of the inhabitants of Panem. The internet is abuzz with movie news of the upcoming film and the first full trailer was released this morning causing thousands of tweets and Youtube reaction videos as fans and film lovers anticipate March 23, 2012 - the release of the film.
The three leads in the film are young stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth as Katniss, Peeta, and Gale respectively. With so many young adult novels being adapted to the big screen, The Hunger Games may burst on the scene with a vengence and prove to steal the crown from other big deal YA (young adult) franchises such as Twilight. It is a force to be reckoned with that will appeal to all ages and genders.
Accompanied by a magnificent score, the overall trailer has a grim and dark feel that is skillfully juxtaposed with the plot. It gives away just enough to give those that have not read the film a glimpse of the story within, but holds back the majority of the action which is a brilliant move. Perhaps in the coming months more trailers will be released that showcase the action that happens during the actual Games.
What is the most important to me is the acting which tends to fall short in other YA adapted movies. Lawrence seems particularly amazing during this glimpse as Katniss Everdeen, the lead character in the novels and film. Strong willed and resourceful, Katniss is the sole provider of her family of three which is why she volunteers herself for The Hunger Games, as evidenced in the trailer.
Here are some other faces that stand out in the trailer: Willow Shields as Primrose Everdeen, Katniss' sister; Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket, in a vibrant pink suit; Lenny Kravitz as Cinna, the stylist helping her make an impression; and Woody Harleson as Haymitch, the impressive white haired geezar.
