'Immortals' Director Wants to Do a Samurai Jack Movie

India-born director Tarsem Singh is probably on cloud nine right now, as its been reported that his stylized ancient Greek war film Immortals has opened first against the the newest Adam Sandler "comedy" and the surprisingly good Shrek spin-off Puss in Boots.  I imagine that his options for what to do in the future have been broadened quite a bit, and certain comments he's made towards The Hollywood Reporter tells us that this future might include a live action version of Samurai Jack, a Cartoon Network hit that ran from 2001-2004.

“I love Samurai Jack.  I would love to direct that.  It’s brilliant.  The speed, it embraces where it comes from. I find that comic strip films are halfway grounded.  They don’t play my chord.  But I love Samurai Jack.  I love the animation.”

I may have hated The Cell, but I'll give credit to him for knowing what he likes and what he can do.  Samurai Jack was an almost plotless cartoon that relied on hardcore action and high-octane visuals to grab the audience's attention. Sound familiar?  An animated version produced by J.J. Abrams has allegedly been in production since 2009, but any more details have failed to materialize, meaning it's probably dead in the water.

We might have to wait a little while before seeing such a project materialize, however.  Singh's next project is Mirror, Mirror, a dark 2012 retelling of Snow White (not to be mistaken with the other dark 2012 retelling of Snow White).  After that he says he wants to do a simple "talking-head" My Dinner With Andre-style film because "all everyone wants to think is that I want to do visual films."  It's good to see that he wants to change things up, but does anyone else really want him to?
