Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 10:16AM Felicity Jones Lands the Female Lead in Warren Beatty's Untitled Film
According to Deadline, Warren Beatty has handed the lead role in his long gestating Howard Hughes film to Felicity Jones, most likely based on the strength of her performance in Like Crazy. Jones will play the part of “a young woman who develops a relationship with Hughes’s young driver and confidante, before she falls in love with Hughes”. With production slated to begin next summer, Beatty still hasn’t announced his choice for the young male lead, but the names of Justin Timberlake and Alden Ehrenreich have surfaced in recent days.
This will be something of a comeback film for Beatty as he hasn’t been seen on the big screen since 2001’s Town and Country. Beatty plans to star in and direct from a script he wrote. (Reminds me of that Bugs Bunny cartoon – you know the one where Bugs plays all nine positions on the baseball field) Anyway, rumors also suggest that Beatty’s wife, Annette Bening, will be joining him along with Jack Nicholson, Alec Baldwin and Owen Wilson. New Regency will co-finance after stepping into the void left when Paramount pulled out.
It has been reported that Beatty has been working on getting this project rolling for years and obviously feels that movie audiences will warmly embrace another drama focused on the life of the reclusive Hughes, even if this one may or may not be factual.
Personally, I think any new movie about Hughes, especially if we are to stretch the facts, should be a comedy, but that’s just my opinion.
