Ice Cube tried to make sequels to his smash hit Friday and kinda failed. Ok, Next Friday was decent, I guess. The missing ingredient, literally the heart and soul that made the marijuana infused comedy Friday so hilarious was the pot head Smokey played by Chris Tucker. Deadline reports Mr. Cube is in talks with New Line Cinema to write, produce and star in a new Friday sequel. There's a possibility that the rapper-turned-actor-turned Coors Light spokesman may even direct this installment as well.
But that's not the news. The news come from TMZ via Tiny Lister (Deebo in Friday) that Tucker will rejoin the comedy franchise that originally launched his career. I always wondered why Tucker bailed on the sequels in the first place, assuming that he'd become to big of a star. Interestingly enough, it turns out he bowed out of the sequels due to religious reasons.
So, Deebo, Craig and the Smoke Dog are reuniting for a fourth Friday. My chief concern with this long-awaited sequel is they remember to bring Big Worm and DJ Pooh's character Red back into the mix again too.
I'm usually not too keen on seeing sequels with all the key players years later, because it always seems to be done out of desperation or to make a quick buck, as opposed to making a great follow-up film. I'm genuinely excited to see these characters get back together. A lot of other movie sites are down on this new Friday idea, but I believe it could be special. The first Friday easily belongs in my Top 10 Best Comedies ever without a doubt.
"This is gonna be the big one," Tiny Lister a.k.a Deebo said.
It's best not to disagree with Deebo, because he will knock you out.
