Steve Carell to Star in Action-Comedy 'Conviction'

After I finished watching Crazy, Stupid, Love the other night, I realized Steve Carell has made the impressive transition from comedy actor to future Oscar-winning actor, like Tom Hanks did years before him.  The guy has been raking in mucho movie roles since his final days at Dundler-Mifflin, and this latest action-comedy he's signed on to should show us another side to this blossoming actor.

Deadline reported yesterday, that Carell will produce and star in a new heist flick called Conviction.  The script, written by Jonathan Herman, "follows a mastermind bank robber who serves five years in prison following a botched heist who is forced by an FBI agent to entrap his protege as the upstart pulls off a multimillion-dollar job.” 

According to Deadline, the movie originally had a "Heat tone" to it, but it could not build any momentum until a re-write changed it to an action-comedy.  For Carell, Conviction could resemble a 48 Hrs./Ocean's Eleven type of role for him.  That's definitely a character I would be interested to see if Carell could pull off portraying, which I believe he could with ease.

Don't worry about Carell getting too serious on us with more films like Conviction.  He still has the magician comedy Burt Wonderstone heading our way in 2013, which just added the lovely Olivia Wilde and former funny man Jim Carrey to its supporting cast list.
