Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 4:20PM Longtime Bond Character "Q" to Return in 'Skyfall'
When the James Bond franchise was revived for Casino Royale, one of the many traditional elements that was chucked out was Q, a character who can best be described as a snooty British version of the Dark Knight Trilogy's Lucius Fox. Now, according to Ain't it Cool News, fans will be able to see his character once again in the recently announced James Bond flick, Skyfall. Rather than being the nitpicky old man, however, he will now be portrayed by 30-year-old actor Ben Wishaw.
I'm one of the seemingly few people who likes the pre-Daniel Craig Bond films more than then the current series, so it comes as no surprise that I don't think this is a particularly good idea. It was the contrast between Q's stuffy annoyance and Bond's devil-may-care attitude that made the character so enduring for all 22 of the original Bond films. Making him so young just reminds me of that annoying sidekick from the xXx movies.
Skyfall stars Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, and Judi Dench. It is slated for a late 2012 release.
