GTBP has another 2-for-1 of The Dark Knight Rises variety tonight. Yesterday we shared some comments from director Christopher Nolan and Tom Hardy about Batman's latest, most intimidating rival, Bane. Now we've got the Dark Knight himself, Christian Bale, applauding the work of his fellow cast mates along with a couple new pics from the set to look at courtesy of Empire.
Almost lost in the all pre-Dark Knight vs Bane hype are co-stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anne Hathaway, who has perhaps the toughest role of all in portraying iconic Batman baddie Catwoman. It's an aspect that Bale touches on his latest interview with the Phillipine Daily Inquire, while discussing his next film The Flowers of War.
JGL is slated to play a lowly Gotham City beat cop (think bigger) in The Dark Knight Rises, though this didn't stop Bale from praising his acting ability.
"Joseph is a very intriguing guy. I would see Joseph’s performances in other films while we were filming. He’s somebody who truly seems to love acting. He’s a good, smart guy. He did a very good job in the movie."
Bale seemed even more impressed with the performance of Hathaway and acknowledges the difficulty in her role as the caped crusader's sexy adversary.
"In many ways, she has the hardest job," Bale said. "There are a number of people who feel that the Catwoman role has been defined previously. So, I always saw Anne’s role as being the toughest job of any of us. In my case, I’ve stopped referencing outside sources. I now reference Chris’ own world of Batman as a guide to what I will continue doing."
We've definitely seen other actors from Nolan's Batman franchise follow the same formula Bale points out, and have thrived (see the late Heath Ledger). It's interesting he mentions that here in regards to his own performance in the series.
