Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 11:32AM ‘Mad Max’ Reboot to Become a Trilogy?

Nothing has come easy for George’s Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road, but perhaps there is a silver lining in all those dark clouds above the land-down-under. Wars, the stock market, man and Mother Nature have all conspired against Miller from making any new Max movies up until now, filming is “now” slated to begin on Fury Road this upcoming April in the country of Namibia. Tom Hardy (Inception) and Charlize Theron (Monster) are still set to headline the return of Max Rockatansky and his dystopian Australian landscape.
Apparently Miller now intends to expand the re-boot to a total of three new films. In an interview with The Australian Financial Review, Miller spoke of his idea:
“We started with [Fury Road], but we then started to do a second story and a third,” he says. “We’ve written the script for the second and almost finished the third. We never intended to, they were part of the exploration of the characters.”
Someone with less patience might have abandoned the Mad Max franchise completely given all the problems it’s encountered in the twenty five years since Thunderdome was released, but not Miller. Since then Miller has created the penguins of Happy Feet and a talking pig by the name of Babe. Hopefully his vision hasn’t been wussed-down through osmosis.
