Two (going by the trailers) pretty good comedies are being released this weekend to compete with last weeks Puss and the poor In Time.  But which film will take the top spot this week?  I say Tower Heist, the Brett Ratner *ugh* directed comedy caper starring the always funny Ben Stiller and the falling star, Eddie Murphy.  I expect the film to open at $26 million.

 

Puss in Boots coughs up a furball and will come in second place.  Puss last week made $34 million, which it earned the number one spot.  Puss will earn $20 million, a 58% drop from it's not so stellar opening weekend.  

 

Opening poorly will be A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas.  This would be the first time a Harold and Kumar film did poorly at the box-office.  The second installment in the franchise lost out to Baby Mama back in 2008 and the first film placed seventh when it debuted back in 2004.  I expect Roldy and Kumar to debut at $13 million.

 

Opening fouth and fifth are In Time and Paranormal Activity 3 respectively.  In Time didn't open up strong, especially since it was declawed to make room for Puss in Boots.  My apologies once again for the bad pun jokes; you readers deserve so much more.  In Time will earn about $6.5 million, so I guess In Time wont have much more time left in theaters.  Sorry, last one.

 

Paranormal Activity 3 will earn $5.9 million in its last weekend in the top five.  But who knows if the films will rise from the grave to earn more next week.
