We know the Star Trek reboot was awesome, but how could J.J. Abrams and company make the sequel better? By casting a really great actor for the lead villain, like they did in the first film with Eric Bana as Nero. Abrams has sights set on making the ultra cool Benicio Del Toro his central villain in the Untitled Star Trek Sequel, according to Variety.
An offical offer hasn't been extended to Benicio yet, but the two sides are reportedly meeting this weekend to discuss the role. A role and character that the notoriously secretive Abrams has been hush hush about, and one Benicio apparently doesn't even know yet. That formula worked wonders for the writer/director for Super 8, but now I'm just annoyed because I really want to know who the antagonist will be this time.
All the regulars will return for the sequel: Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Uhara (Zoe Saldana), Scotty (Simon Pegg), Chekov (Anton Yelchin), Bones McCoy (Karl Urban) and Sulu (John Cho). The script was once again written by Alex Kurtzman, Damon Lindelof and Robert Orci, who were provided influence from the late Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry.
I'm psyched for Benicio's involvement in the sequel, just gives me more reason to get excited. I could see him as a Klingon or as some sort of great new character that I can't possibly begin to imagine. Either way, it'll be a nice break from the grittier things we've seen him in as of late, not they weren't good films as well (Not Wolfman, but the others).
