I sometimes wonder how the Underworld franchise keeps surviving amongst the glut of vampire and werewolf movies. Maybe its Kate Beckinsale as "Selene" in a leather skin-tight suit or the enjoyable actions sequences... No, its definitely Kate Beckinsale. Either way, she's here to usher us with the new trailer for Underworld: Awakening. See after the jump.
The franchise certainly isn't changing much of anything up since it's found a winning formula: tight leather suits, explosions, actions and supernatural species. With all that, they've decide to add the most extreme of all elements: Humans. "Instead of just lycans vs. vampires, Kate Beckinsale’s Selene now has humans to deal with, too. Humans who happen to be hell-bent on eradicating both immortal species from their planet. It’s a whole new war!"
What worries me is the truly obvious and grand trailer exposition. We all know trailers are guilty of such crimes, but it seems all spelled out. That's unfair and i'm sure the film could be marketed in another form. Thankfully, we have Beckinsale who goes and sells the film through and through, but its very decent special effects and production values certainly don't hurt.
Underworld: Awakening is directed by Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein. Starring Kate Beckinsale, Michael Ealy and India Eisley. The film is slated to be released 20 January 2012 in 3D.
