Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 10:22AM 'The Iron Lady' Starring Meryl Streep Sets Release Date
There's something strange about Meryl Streep portraying former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Maybe its the eerie make-up she's wearing in the trailer or the british accent, but something keeps pulling us in. I'll chalk it up to being the fault of Meryl Streep's charisma and I'm guessing that's why The Weinstein Co. has decided to release The Iron Lady at an odd date.
The film would be released amidst the glut of Christmas holiday season on December 30th. I'm guessing there's the whole "awards season hopeful" being touted for the Academy as "the movie will just be slipping in under the Oscar-qualifying wire."

The biopic about British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher -- directed by Phyllida Lloyd, who also put Streep through her paces in Mamma Mia! -- had been penciled in for release Dec. 16. But the Weinstein Co. announced in a tweet Sunday night that it will now open Dec. 30. The film will bow in exclusive runs in New York and Los Angeles on that date and then expand wider Jan. 13.
The keeps the film in Oscar contention since under Academy rules, a movie has until midnight Dec. 31 to begin its one-week qualifying run in Los Angeles County.
