Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 12:25PM 'Taken 2' Underwhelming Detail #373: Luke Grimes is Added to the Cast
When I first looked for this picture on google, the first three images that popped up were directly comparing him with Twilight characters. This is not the man we want to see replace Liam Neeson as an action star.
Taken was one hell of a good action movie, almost entirely because of what Liam Neeson was able to bring to the relatively simple plot. But the released details for the sequel makes one wonder if the film makers even realize that. In addition to the (let's be frank) awful sounding plot details, little known actor Luke Grimes has been added to the cast as the love interest for retired CIA agent Bryan Mills' daughter, who actually sounds like she may end up being the main character of the film.
For those who haven't been following the plot details released so far, Taken 2 is actually about Liam Neeson's character, Bryan Mills, and his ex-wife played Famke Janssen, being captured and held hostage by the father of one of the villains from the first film. How does Mills' daughter (Maggie Grace) come into play? She's the one who supposed to be rescuing them. The daughter, who ended the last film with heavy aspirations to be a pop singer. It's been speculated that Luke Grimes' character will be playing a character who could provide for the more action heavy elements, but is that really what the audience wants to see?
To be fair to director Olivier Megaton, we don't exactly how this is going to play out. He could have something special up his sleeve, but as things currently are, the plot just sounds bad. Straight to DVD sequel bad. Almost as if Liam Neeson refused to devote enough time to being the main character again, and they were forced to rewrite the script to compensate. I hope I'm wrong, but I have to call things as I see them.
Taken 2 is scheduled for release in October 2012.
