What can I say about Tyler Perry that hasn't already been said about Uwe Boll? Perry has yet to make a film that critics can call a masterpiece. I Can Do Bad All By Myself came pretty close with a 60% approval , and I can attest that it was his best film. He can barely write and hardly direct; his dialog comes off as stupid, the directions come off stale but one thing is for sure, he knows how to capture the emotions and triumphs of a woman in need. As Madea might say, "Amen to that!"
The question I ask is, "can he capture the emotions of a man the same way he can a woman?" I ask that because his newest film, Good Deeds, stars himself instead of a woman. Yes, I know that Daddy's Little Girls starred Idris Elba but it wasn't the raw performance I was looking for. Though, Good Deeds may be Perry's best film.
Yes, there is that melodramatic acting in it, but something shines through that just spoke to me when watching the trailer. I wouldn't rush out to see it, but I will definitely check it out when it hits DVD.
Good Deeds stars Thandie Newton (love her), Rebecca Romijn, Brian White, Gabrielle Union(also love her) and Tyler Perry who also wrote, directed and produced the film. Good Deeds is set to hit theaters February 24th, 2012.
