John Carter or He-Man?
Disney's John Carter has been getting universally panned by our guys on GTBP and rightfully so. As much as I appreciate Taylor Kitsch's acting ability (mostly from Friday Night Lights), and believe he'll have a great career down the line it's hard to overlook how bad John Carter could be. Let's face it, it's either going experience box-office success on March 9, 2012 or come across as an epic flop. It appears as a Prince of Persia meets Masters of the Universe (Another He-Man reference?) taking place on Tatooine, similar to the skiff battle in Return of the Jedi.
If the action and special effects set to a rockin' cover of Led Zeppelin's Kashmir can't get me enthused for this one, I'm not sure anything will. I saw Kitsch open the new trailer during a Good Morning America interview Monday, and he seemed genuinely convinced John Carter is destined to be the next big blockbuster.
I guess will have to see who was right when it's all said and done, John Carter himself or GTBP. The safe bet leaning towards the latter. John Carter (formerly of Mars) was directed by Pixar's Andrew Stanton (Wall-E, Finding Nemo) and will arrive in theaters on March 9, 2012.

Ah, you kids just don't know good ol' fashioned space opera when ya' see it. 'Raised on to much Terminator, John Woo and that Tarantino twirp stuff.
I DO wonder if a new generation will take to this since it's been referenced in SO MUCH from Star Wars to Avatar. I think it looks absolutely elegant and I can't wait to see it, see it IN 3D, and see if they at least make a trilogy from it - and hopefully call the third movie "John Carter of Mars" when maybe the character chooses the red planet as his home over Earth.
