While waiting for Bill Murray’s shredder to break, Dan Aykroyd will keep himself somewhat busy by joining the cast of Dog Fight. Aykroyd will have a small role in the political comedy being directed by Jay Roach. Production is already under way in New Orleans and Warner Bros. is looking to take advantage of the current election year hysteria by giving it an August release date.
While Aykroyd’s exact role hasn’t been announced it will most likely be significant, perhaps even that of the U.S. President.
Dog Fight tells the story of two political rivals played by Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis, who are slugging it out for the chance to represent a small South Carolina district as its U.S. Congressman. The rest of the cast includes Brian Cox, Dylan McDermott, Jason Sudekis and John Lithgow.
Shawn Harwell (Eastbound and Down) and Chris Henchy (The Other Guys) are credited with the screenplay, so we’ll likely get lots of Ferrell being Ferrell and everybody else dropping loads of F-bombs.
If Roach harnesses his inner Austin Powers then he could properly mold this eclectic group into a cast of clowns funnier than the gaggle of nitwits running for the Presidential republican ticket.
