Today we can thank the folks at Millennium Films for giving us something to look forward to, courtesy of their retro poster release. The poster is for the upcoming Lee Daniels directed flick, The Paperboy, and marks Daniels follow-up to his Oscar nominated Precious. The Paperboy stars Matthew McConaughey, John Cusack, Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron.
Efron fans should be excited to see him step into some serious storytelling and get support from a rock-solid cast.
Here is the official synopsis: A directionless young man, (Efron) helps his reporter brother (McConaughey) investigate the possible wrongful conviction of a man (Cusack) sitting on death row for the murder of a local sheriff. Efron’s character, Jack James falls for the movie’s femme fatale (Kidman) who apparently harbors special feelings towards the man behind bars that they’re trying to help.
The project has legitimacy besides Daniels behind the lens as Peter Dexter (Muholland Falls) adapted his own novel into the screenplay.
I’m not sure if this movie was on anybody’s radar up until now, but the news surrounding the poster’s release has achieved one thing, it has made people take a look. I was drawn in by something more fundamental, that any drama involving Cusack and Kidman is probably worthwhile seeing. We'll know for sure when the film hits theaters next year.
