Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 11:30AM New Revelations For Selina Kyle In 'The Dark Knight Rises'

We can all remember the most recent trailer released from Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises when watching Tom Hardy bring a certainly physicality to Bane that is realistic to the world of Gotham City and the franchise's real-world aesthetic. Now comes some very spoiler-ific information about Anne Hathaway's role as Selina Kyle/Catwoman. The kitty likes to scratch, so to speak.
The information comes from a profile of actress Anne Hathaway on the set of The Dark Knight Rises by The Los Angeles Times. [SPOILERS AHEAD] Hathaway goes to describe the purpose of that little scene in the trailer where Bruce Wayne seems to be back in an "Inception-esque" prison. Although, this time it doesn't invovle Ra's al Ghul (as far as anyone is willing to reveal):
Gotham City is a war zone. A ruthless madman named Bane has ripped away any sense of security and the citizens, haggard and clutching suitcases with refugee anxiety, sit behind barbed wire waiting to see what will blow up next. A hooded prisoner is dragged in – it’s Bruce Wayne, one of Gotham’s most famous faces – but the eyes of the crowd go instead to the woman in black standing at the top of the staircase.
“Sorry to spoil things, boys, but Bane needs these guys himself,” says sultry Selina Kyle, played here by actress Anne Hathaway, navigating the steps with stiletto heels that, on closer inspection, turn out to have serrated edges capable of leaving nasty claw marks in a fight. She also wears high-tech goggles that, when not in use, flip up and resemble feline ears.
Guess Catwoman/Selina Kyle is working alongside Bane in trying to break Bruce Wayne from his high-profile social status and Bane is doing the same with Batman, Wayne's alter-ego. Certainly hinted at by a specific line in the trailer, where Kyle confronts Wayne about his wealth and that leaving nothing to everyone else will be his downfall.
With that, we've got some of the 99% protesters ideology in Nolan's Gotham, I certainly don't mind that and clearly evidenced by reports that the production was contemplating shooting during the Occupy Wall Street movement which was (at the time) going strong.
Furthermore, Hathaway also reveals a little tidbit about Catwoman and her suit:
"I love the costume. I love the costume because everything has a purpose, nothing is in place for fantasy’s sake, and that’s the case with everything in Christopher Nolan’s Gotham City."
The Dark Knight Rises is directed by Christopher Nolan and stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Anne Hathaway and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The film is scheduled for a wide release July 20, 2012.
