Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 10:19PM Silva's Pick: Worst Film of 2011
With David Hoffman, Josh Baldwin, Mario Melidona, and our editor writing about the best films of 2011, I thought I would just flip the script and tell you about the worst film of 2011 (because of school, I haven't seen many films this year. So bare with me if your least favorite is on the list).

No other in 2011 had me scratching my head and face palming harder than Transformers: Dark of the Moon. What a surprise! A Michael Bay film.
You would think that gigantic fighting robots would prove fun on an IMAX screen but why torture the audience with drab characters, corny dialoug and story that would make Tyler Perry cringe.
The problem with Transformers is the pacing. Michael Bay takes his sweet ass time to tell us about some sort of machine or device for two hours. I don't know exactly what was happening except that John Malkovich hated red on his yellow floor. Why does it take two hours to tell us that Sentinal Prime is evil and wants to create a bridge from our world to his? Boom! I did it in one sentence.
The action sucked too. By the time the last action set piece rolled around, I was too inebriated with boredom that I didn't bother to pay attention.

My favorite film of 2011, well, one of my favorites is Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. This is how you do an action film. Giant set pieces, great pacing, and that feeling you get when Tom Cruise saves the world. The film grabs you by the neck and refuses to let you go. The story may have not been the greatest but it still sufficed.

Hey look, another teenager trying to be cool by trashing one of the biggest movies of all time -Transformers 3-, directed by one of the most talented action directors in Hollywood - Michael Bay. Congrats my friend, you got the attention you wanted. Of course, you're allowed to have an opinion, but at least share it with more respect, if you want people to take you seriouisly. Oh and yeah, the first scenes of the fight in Chicago in Transformers 3 alone, are beter than the entire ridiculous Ghost Protocol movie, in which Brad Bird directed real actors like they're rubber Pixar characters.
By the way, since you want to play the role of a Michael Bay hater (and I love these haters, because they're very silly and entertaining), let me ask you - were even born when he made the two classic action films Bad Boys and The Rock. Have you even heard of these films? No, I bet that you're unaware of any other movies in existence...that is with the exception of The Dark Knight and Inception. Am I right? Are you a Nolan fanboy thinking that he's the greatest filmmaker of all time? Yeah, it's pretty clear you are. FYI, Nolan himself is a Michael Bay fan. You didn't know that, did you, smarta$$?
Do the world a favor and educate yourself when it comes to the Michael Bay movies outside the Transformers trilogy ( a trilogy you apparently saw, which is funny considering your childish hatred for the director) and then act all tough on the web.
P.S. Learn to expess your opinion in a more intelligent way. I know you're just a young boy, but try to remember that other people too are seeing this sad excuse of an opinionated article.
See more moves before you make a worst of list.....trust me Dark of the Moon is far from the worst released this year.
Anyone calling Transformers a horrible movie (who probably also don't like Avatar) don't have a single clue the immense amount of work and talent it takes to make such a movie possible.
I got a degree in 3d art/programming and if I could give you only 1% of my knowledge about this to you, you would be already blown away by movies like this and would not make such a statement. Even I scratch my head how they make certain shots possible and was blown away by the non stop awesomeness.
Don't get me wrong, high quality state of the art effects movies don't mean a good movie overall. But calling it a horrible, especially most horrible movie is very untrue and disrespectful. There are way worse movies than this.
I get your point but, the main cause of you making such a statement is because people are spoiled with high end movies and are becoming increasingly more difficult to impress.
Dave: We don't hire fanboys. Silva has as much of a right to not like a film as you do to like it. There's no reason to get offended and throw him under the bus because you disagree.
Dave,
Why thank you kind sir for your "opinionated" statement defending one of the best action directors, Michael Bay. I mention Michael Bay in the 'article' to show my growing frustration with his recent efforts to try to entertain me with yet another Transformer film. The first film, might I add, was quite enjoyable and one of my favorite films of 2007, but I quickly grew bored and tired with the corny sequel and the boring, dragging Dark of the Moon. If I have offended you in anyway, please, grow a pair of balls and quit your crying. It's my opinion, I'm entitled to have one. My opinion cannot be wrong or right. I respect your opinion, can you at least do the same for me?
P.S. Nolan is good director but his talents are no where near as close as _________ (you can fill in the blank for me).
David:
DOTM had a confusing story and the pacing slow. I probably would've enjoyed it more if the film was only an hour and 45 minutes but the story dragged on for too long. I was completely disengaged by the time the Autobots were about to board the shuttle. If I had to choose another film, it would be Green Lantern or Priest.
Poly,
I cannot truly understand the amount of blood, sweat, and tears that is given to the countless number of programmers over at ILM when it came to making this film. I can't and you said it yourself, as well. However, though the robots in this film look much better than any other CGI used in any film this year, the overall product was underwhelming. No amount of fighting alien robots can turn a shit story into a decent one, (at least, with some people). You can polish a turd and you have yourself one nice shiny turd. If that is the case, maybe ILM should add fighting robots to an Uwe Boll film.
I honestly was in no way offended by your opinion of the movie. My only point was that DOTM was not the worst of the year. It wasn't good but it wasn't Bucky Larson bad.
