Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 7:08AM 'Thor 2' Director Bolts Project?

Months back, when it was announced that director Patty Jenkins (Monster) was hired to helm the Thor sequel it came as a huge surprise to many. Jenkins seemed like a very odd choice from the start, so it shouldn't shock anyone that she has reportedly left the highly-anticipated sequel due to creative differences. Saw that coming!
The studio is currently involved in a mad dash to find a replacement, and despite bailing on the project Jenkins still remains in good graces with the studio and may be offered a future directorial gig. Thor 2 is slated to be released on July 26, 2013, so the replacement search is expected to be frantic one. Given how much preparation goes into these super hero blockbusters, I suspect an offer will be extended to any semi-qualified director soon.
I'd love to see the offer go back to Brian Kirk (Game of Thrones), who was one of the first names mentioned in relation to the sequel once it was made public that Kenneth Branagh wouldn't return. Granted, he only directed three episodes of Game of Thrones, but that's impressive enough for me. Game of Thrones was easily the best series to air on HBO since The Wire and Sopranos called it quits.
However, I'm guessing Kirk won't end up in their plans again.
Now that Jenkins is out, who should Marvel bring in to direct Chris Hemsworth in Thor 2?

My theory would've been that they wanted her because they wanted to skew the next Thor movie to a more female audience. Each Marvel Avengers movie obviously appeals to the comic book crowd but the studio probably wants to still infuse something in each one that attracts a little different audience outside that superhero fanbase. This departure may throw a hammer in those works.
