Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 6:20PM Guy Ritchie Takes Over 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.'

Steven Soderbergh's loss is now Guy Richie's gain, as reports from Deadline indicate the Sherlock Holmes director will now take over the new acronym spy film The Man From U.N.C.L.E. I for one am still excited about this film adaptation of the popular 1960's TV series that pitted two top agents against an evil terrorist organization called THRUSH, despite the seemingly constant turnover.
Soderbergh opted to begin work on his Liberace biopic and possibly inch a few steps closer to retirement by walking away from The Man From U.N.C.L.E. So the quick run down on this previously doomed project: Clooney doesn't want to star as super spy Napoleon Solo. Bradley Cooper won't replace him. Soderbergh has dropped out, and Guy Ritchie has taken the ball that is The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and is running away with it. Long story short.
I can't say I'm all that bummed that Soderbergh has been replaced by Ritchie. Even though, Haywire looks like an intense action flick, I still prefer Ritchie's outrageous style of action films (Sherlock Holmes, RocknRolla, Snatch) to Soderbergh's work with the genre. Of course, that could change with a viewing of Haywire.
What I'll be really curious to see is what talent they look to cast now that Ritchie is the man behind the camera. I stated months back that I'd love to see Alexander Skarsgard get the part of either spy and still stand by that.

I think this is a GREAT development for this project. With Soderbergh it would've been "Ocean's U.N.C.L.E." but Richie could really supply THE PERFECT blend of comedic sendup/spoof and action.
And I can't wait to hear the soundtrack.
