Friday, December 9, 2011 at 11:54AM Fearless Forecast: 'New Years Eve' Comes 22 Days Early!

Yes, if Valentine's Day wasn't bad enough, we have to endure through another sluggish, poorly written cheese-fest, which, ironically is what most of our trolls say about my articles (Andrew Dice Clay groan). Well, audiences seemed to love Garry Marshall's first ensemble film as Valentine's Day managed to bring in over $56 million opening weekend when it opened February 12 of last year, over half of that cash was earned on V Day. But can Warners score twice with essentially the same film but set around a different holiday? I say yes New Year's Eve will gross around $26.3 million dollars.

The Sitter may have the potential to place second; I mean it has comedy, action, sex, Jonah Hill and young children talking like full grown, sailors. The last film with a child with a mouth dirtier than porn directors mind was Kick-Ass, which earned $19 million. And Jonah Hill isn't a huge draw. Of the films he starred in this year and last year, he has only managed to earn $17 million for Get Him To The Greek and $19 million for Moneyball (based on opening weekend). Superbad fared much better at $30 mill, though maybe it was the combined awesomeness of Michael Cera and Hill that made it earn so much. The Sitter will gross $16 million.
Of course, how could I forget about Twilight? Breaking Dawn was the number one movie three weeks in a row beating out Hugo, Arthur Christmas, and even The Muppets. This is the weekend wehre the vampire/werewolf giant is taken out by Garry Marshall. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part One will gross $12 million.
Fourth and fifth belong to The Muppets and Hugo. The Muppets have only peaked at second since its release Thanksgiving day weekend. Hugo is another film that is getting pissed on by audiences because the film had only peaked in third place and was releasedt he same exact time as The Muppets. The Muppets will gross $7 million and Hugo will gross $6.4 million.
Heres the Top Five recap:
1. New Year's Eve $26.3 M
2. The Sitter $16 M
3. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part One $12 M
4. The Muppets $7 M
5. Hugo $6.4 M
