"Hit...You sunk my alien space craft."
I don't remember my fleet of naval ships taking shots at flying saucers during games of Battleship as a kid. Apparently, director Peter Berg (Hancock) played a different version of the famous board game, and that's evident with his film adaptation of Battleship. The studio was able to recruit stars Liam Neeson, Taylor Kitsch and Alexander Skarsgard with eye candy in Brooklyn Decker and Rihanna to play Navy troops battling alien intruders at sea. And this upcoming summer movie looks eerily similar to Michael Bay's Transformers films only with an ocean backdrop.
That's not to say this movie will be bad or a direct rip off of the Transformers, but the new trailer seems to reflect both. I mean the aliens where robot-like suits for crying out loud.
Battleship comes out on May 18, 2012 and will be among the first crop of summer blockbusters to hit theaters. Despite my obvious misgivings about it, it will still make a ton at the box-office and people will flock to see it.
