Friday, December 9, 2011 at 10:11PM Two 'Game of Thrones' Directors Circling 'Thor 2'

Director Patty Jenkins (Monster) exited the Thor sequel the other day over creative differences giving way to a new directorial search. I lobbied for a previous candidate for the gig, Brian Kirk who is known for directing episodes of HBO's Game of Thrones. Turns out, Marvel has narrowed its search to two directors both of which also directed episodes of Game of Thrones.
Tonight it was reported that Alan Taylor and Daniel Minahan are being viewed as possible replacements to helm Thor 2 in wake of Jenkin's departure. The two have mostly worked on TV series. Minahan also directed several episodes of True Blood, in addition to Grey's Anatomy and Deadwood. His resume is deep and filled with decent shows, so that could work in his favor.
Taylor on the other hand, also helmed episodes from great series like the Sopranos, Mad Men and Bored to Death. Both directors have the experience, so it'll be interesting to see who the studio chooses to get their feet wet on a big feature film like Thor 2.
Since Game of Thrones was such a fantastic series I'd be cool with either guy stepping in for Kenneth Branagh, who left after the first film. I know Thor himself Chris Hemsworth was pretty jazzed about the perspective Patty Jenkins was going bring to the project, so I wonder who he would prefer between the two new candidates now.
We'll find out soon enough...
