Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at 11:04PM Ray Liotta Next to Join All-Star Cast for 'Cogan's Trade'
We've heard a lot about Cogan's Trade and its A-list cast, headlined by mega star Brad Pitt, over the last few months. Today the studio brought another solid supporting actor into the fold for Andrew Dominik's upcoming crime drama about a mob enforcer named Jackie Cogan (Pitt), who investigates a heist involving a mob-protected poker game.
According to THR, veteran tough guy actor Ray Liotta will play the hustler, Mark "Markie" Trattman who hosts this high stakes poker game in Cogan's Trade.
Liotta joins the impressive cast list of Pitt, Javier Bardem, Mark Ruffalo, Casey Affleck, Sam Rockwell, Richard Jenkins and James Gandolfini for the project slated to begin filming soon. It's easy to see how Liotta's character will fit in with the story, though I'm not sure what the plan is for the other players yet.
The film is an adaptation of a George V. Higgins novel written in 1974. Dominik, who wrote and will helm Cogan's Trade, previously worked with Pitt and Affleck in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford back in 2007, a movie he also wrote and directed. I appreciated Dominik's slow and deliberate style in that movie, which is an aspect that might play well with the suspense in Cogan's Trade.
Crime dramas are right up my alley, and the cast for this movie looks damn good on paper. I only hope the movie will live up to the hype and expectations I can already see myself placing on it.
