Viggo Mortensen to Play General Zod in 'Superman'?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, if director Zack Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan have their way, Viggo Mortensen will play General Zod in their Superman reboot. THR writes that Mortensen "is said to be at the top of the list to play General Zod, the evil and super-powered scientist who was portrayed by Terrence Stamp in 1980's Superman II." (Stamp, of course, also played Zod in the original Superman film.)

Mortensen has not actually met with Snyder or Nolan yet, but he is reportedly a "person of interest." Personally, I think it's a bit of an odd choice. Mortensen certainly has the acting pedigree, but I don't really see him as a nefarious intergalactic general hellbent on world domination. But I think Nolan has certainly earned the benefit of the doubt at this point in his career.

The only role cast so far for the film is the role of Superman, which will be played by Henry Cavill. Kevin Costner is rumored to be up for the part of Jonathan Kent and reportedly three female parts are currently open for casting. (Presumably Lois Lane, Martha Kent and Ursa.)

Viggo M. would be a great choice, he can show the good/bad side of Zod. Only concern is his age, I dont know how younger they're going to make him look if they choose him.
