Speculation is that Day-Lewis may also be up for the role of General Zod in the film. However, it's worth noting that when Mortensen's name came up, he had not actually had any contact with Nolan or Snyder, so it's entirely possible that Day-Lewis is simply on their wish list for the part. And that makes sense, of course - Day-Lewis is one of the greatest actors of our time, he is probably on every director's wish list. So whether they are interested in Day-Lewis and whether he is actually interested in the project are two totally different things.
It's hard to put too much stock in this rumor, but it's fun to think about nonetheless. If Mortensen and Day-Lewis really are both up for the role of Zod, personally I'd go with Day-Lewis. He's always phenomenal and will manage to add depth to the character that might otherwise not be there.

He wouldn't be bad for Supe's father either, if they flashback that far in this one. Since it's a reboot like they did for Batman, they're certain to do the ENTIRE origin over , so any actors with the kind of stature that Mortensen or Day-Lewis have, I would think FIRST for the Kryptonians.
