Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at 8:09PM Rosamund Pike Cast in 'Clash of the Titans' Sequel

British actress Rosamund Pike has been in the discussion for some pretty big films over the last few years. Most recently, X-Men: First Class and Zack Snyder's Superman. Well now, Pike is bowing of the Superman discussion to take another Warner Bros. project: the Clash of the Titans sequel, Wrath of the Titans.
Hit the jump to find out what role Pike will be filling and what we know about the sequel thus far.
According to Deadline, Pike will be playing Andromeda. If you saw Clash of the Titans, first of all I'm sorry (I wasted my money too) and secondly you might have noticed that Andromeda had already appeared in the film being played by another actress (Alexa Davalos). Well apparently Davalos is "unavailable for the sequel" leaving the studio to recast the role, which is also said to be much larger than it was in the first film. Personally, I think the studio pushed Davalos out seeing her as a weaker actress that wouldn't be able to handle a major role in this film. And, I think they were right. Pike is a much more capable actress and I think she'll be great here.
While most people despised Clash of the Titans (myself included), I did see some potential in the mess. And, in recent interviews, everyone involved in the first film that is coming back for the sequel has openly said the film sucked. With that being said, and a new director at the helm (Jonathan Liebesman) I'm actually kind of excited about the sequel.
Two things, however, do have me worried about the sequel. At one point, James Franco and Javier Bardem were in talks to come aboard but ultimately decided to pass. What we don't know is if they passed because they didn't like the script, filmmakers, etc. or if they simply had other projects they wanted to pursue. Warners did end up with two very strong actors in those roles (Toby Kebbell and Edgar Ramirez) so there's got to be something in this film.
My other worry is a more realistic one. Like the first film, the sequel is planned for a 3D release. And, we all know what a disaster Clash's 3D turned out to be. My only hope here is that like other areas, the studio learned from its past 3D mistake and will shoot this film natively in 3D rather than an atrocious post-conversion.
Wrath of the Titans is set for a 3D release on March 30, 2012.
