Argg, mateys! It be Tom Hanks here as Captain Richard Phillips in Columbia Pictures' adaptation of the story about the american captured by Somali Pirates. Sweet.
Even sweeter is the fact that the team behind The Social Network is producing it. This team includes Kevin Spacey, Scott Rudin, Michael DeLuca, and Dana Brunetti. The script is written by Billy Ray who also wrote Shattered Glass. If you haven't seen Shattered Glass, go check it out - it's a great film. With pirates dominating the news headlines in recent years, several films are in production, including a korean film about the rescue of sailors by the Korean special forces.
This movie just got the star power it needed to capture the attention of moviegoers and I think the film will be a high quality flick. The movie doesn't have an official title yet but Columbia also bought the rights to Richard Phillips' book A Captain's Duty so there's a remote chance that the title will be same as the book but I strongly doubt it.

I think that Hanks will do a excellent job like he is used to do in that movie. It has been a long time since the movie that he made.
