In an interview with LA Times, Director Zack Snyder confirmed that Kevin Costner will be playing the role of Jonathan Kent, also known as the husband of Martha and Clark Kent's dad. He also gave some more hints about the plot. For one, the film will not be a prequel or sequel to any of the previous versions of the superhero.
Says Snyder:
"You know that if you do Superman right - or at least if you do him with respect - you know you end up with something great.... [but] in some ways [beyond] that is virgin territory. No one knows what that is. In some ways Superman is the most recognizable superhero on the planet but also the most unknown. Just what he can be? People have preconceived ideas about him but probably all of them are wrong."
He also went on to say that, "our Superman, he's got things to figure out, but he's a physical cat." This confirms all the previous reports that the story revolves around Clark Kent's high school life like the TV show, Smallville.

He can pull off the all-american dad though he might not be old enough or chubby enough as I remember him in the comic books or the previous versions of the film. But given Snyder's comments, it seems like he's telling people to take everything you know about Superman and throw it out the window. I can't wait for this ride.
