Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 5:09PM Sweet 'TRON: Uprising' Animated Series Trailer

When Disney announced their plans for TRON: Legacy, they made it quite clear that their plan of attack was multifaceted. The film itself, potential sequels, video games, theme park attractions, action figures, and even an animated TV series. That's just how Disney rolls, duh WINNING! Now that Legacy underperformed at the box office, it's on to the next phase, which is Disney's all out war on the home video front.
With the Blu-Ray and DVD release of TRON: Legacy just a month away, we got our first look at the trailer for TRON: Uprising, the animated series that fills in the gap between the original TRON and last year's sequel, which is included on the DVD/Blu-Ray set. While some might groan this idea is just for kids, I beg to differ. The voice cast is stacked, the filmmakers behind Legacy were all involved, and the trailer itself looks pretty awesome. Check it out below.
The voice cast includes Elijah Wood, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Mandy Moore, Paul Reubens, Nate Corddry, Lance Henriksen, and Tron himself Bruce Boxleitner. The series is being directed by TRON: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski, Charlie Bean, and Sean Bailey, and written by TRON: Legacy writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. There's a 10-part micro-series of Uprising scheduled to air this Fall on Disney XD, but the regular series itself won't air until summer 2012. The reaction to the micro-series and the financial success of the Legacy DVD will be the deciding factors if we another TRON on the big screen anytime soon.
Synopsis:
Beck, a young program who becomes the unlikely leader of a revolution inside the computer world of The Grid. His mission is to free his home and friends from the reign of the villainous Clu 2 and his henchman General Tesler. Beck will be trained by Tron – the greatest warrior the Grid has ever known. Tron will not only teach Beck the fighting skills he needs to challenge this brutal military occupation, but will be a guide and mentor to him as he grows beyond his youthful, impulsive nature into a courageous, powerful leader. Destined to become the new protector of the system, Beck adopts Tron’s persona and becomes the archenemy of Tesler and his oppressive forces.
