Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 10:09AM Obviously, 'Saw' Franchise Isn't Done Yet
Saw 3D: The Final, Final, Final Chapter Coming Soon to a Theater Near You!Do you remember Saw 3D, titled The Final Chapter? You know, the one where Lionsgate came out and promised Saw 3D will be the last film so you have to go see the final installment? Well guess what? Saw 3D, as horrible as it was, still made a lot of money. And if you're Lionsgate and you only have a limited number of lucrative franchises, you can't just stop making a film that's guaranteed a profit. Even if it means creating the 7th, 8th, or 9th sequel.
To be honest, I lost count of how many Saw movies there are. Movieweb sat down with creator Leigh Whannell, and he says he's would like for the Saw franchise to make a comeback sometime down the road.
"I know you have been asked this question ten thousand times, but do you guys ever think you will come back to Saw? This last sequel was supposed to be the end of the franchise forever.
Leigh Whannell: Yeah. Sure. We don't sit around and play with ideas. We don't spend an afternoon chatting about where that could go. We are so busy working on other stuff. But we are definitely responsive to it. We are still friends with the producers, and they did such a great job taking care of the franchise. They really catered to the fans of the franchise that loved it. Its hard to have anything but affection for the Saw films, because that is the one that granted our life's wish. I would definitely be open to one day doing something else with the Saw films. Knowing James Wan and I, and how we work, I think it would have to be something totally fresh and new."
So fine, maybe it won't make a comeback this year, but I can almost guarantee you'll see the next one within the next three years.

They're not breaking up the band, they're just not gonna' make albums or tour for awhile - so to speak. In ten years maybe they'll do a reboot. Near term, there's always direct-to-video.
