Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 3:16AM You Ready to Scream For Scream 5 and 6?

Following the footsteps of the Saw series, it looks like Scream will be the next horror franchise to be a long drawn out brand and as long as it makes money, I'm sure Scream 7 and 8 will follow as well.
As you know, Scream 4 will be hitting theaters soon on April 15th, 2011 and we now learned that Dimension Films has a writing assignment out for Scream Numero Cinco. Cinemablend sat down with Wes Craven and he said that Scream 4 may be turned into a trilogy, if Bob Weinstein wants it. As far as he knows, he's interested and open to the idea.
I can forecast Scream 4 box office figures and I'll say it right now, it'll be a success. Costs for making this film is pretty low and for Dimension Films, they'll turn a huge profit. That means a trilogy is likely. Or if you take a page out of Saw, we might see the Scream franchise last 10 years from now.

What is your box office forecast for Sre4m (or however they're spelling it w/ the number in there)?
Jeremy, believe it or not, Scream 3 was released in 2000. Yeah, I can't believe it's been that long either and that one did $34.7 million in the opening weekend. It launched in February away from Halloween and summer blockbuster season and it did pretty well. The good news for them is that they are going up again RIO on April 15th, which is an animated film so completely different demographic of audience members. Right now, I'd say, they'll do anywhere between $22 - $27 million at the opening box. We'll nail down a number closer to release.
From the get go, Scream 4 was planned as the first entry in a new Scream trilogy with Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven working out the stories for Scream 5 and 6 together. Now that Williamson is out, the fate of the new trilogy ultimately depends on Scream 4's opening weekend. If it opens well, Craven already knows where 5 and 6 are going so we'll definitely see those two in the next few years.
Thanks Mike! I thought they had planned all along for this to be a new trilogy and you just answered all the questions i had after reading this
