Monday, March 7, 2011 at 2:09PM Simon Pegg Talks About The Rebirth of MIssion: Impossible

Simon Pegg was recently interviewed for his thoughts on the latest Mission: Impossible installment. But don't tell him it's just M:I 4, he sees the film as more of a reboot of the series.
Given that this may be Tom Cruise's last Mission: Impossible, he may be just right. Says Pegg:
"It's a rebirth for the series. In the same way with what they've done with The Amazing Spider-Man. I feel like it's a reinvigoration of this particular story. It was a series when it was on TV, so it's a story that can have so many iterations. There are so many adventures to get into with this team of impossible mission fighters. When a film goes into number four you're like, 'Isn't this just like flogging a dead horse now?' But what they've done is they've brought in a director who's never done live action before but who's had a 100 percent hit rate for his previous movies: Ratatouille, The Incredibles, and The Iron Giant are all just five star films. Brad Bird has just brought that sensibility to this film. And the fact that's it's Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, it's not Mission: Impossible 4."
So he's comparing it to the reboot planned for Spider-Man. However, I have to disagree with you Simon. Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol still has the same actors and characters from the previous film and the plotline is continuous. That being said, I do believe it's in a transitional phase and maybe an Ethan Hunt protege may take over the series but it's hardly a reboot.

Well then there is the fact that he's actually worked on a major movie and you're doing this big-time blog thing, so maybe his perspective is a little different, or biased, or whatever - but IT DOES actually come from WORKING on a movie and we'll have to just go with that - until we see the final product. Which you haven't yet.
