Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 4:29PM Disney Lands Post-Apocalyptic 'The Runner' for Marc Forster & Brian Grazer
Apparently post-apocalyptic adventures involving time travel haven't been done to death in the movie business. Really? You could've fooled me. Deadline reported today that Disney has officially acquired the rights for a futuristic survival flick called The Runner.
The upcoming Brian Grazer produced film is looking at Finding Neverland and Quantum of Solace director Marc Forster (pictured below) to helm this massive project. The Runner is also being developed into a TV series, video game, various phone applications and a graphic novel, similar to the multi-media formats Disney recently created for the film TRON: Legacy.
The premise of The Runner is eerily familiar, think The Terminator series or 12 Monkeys. The story is set in the year 2027, the Earth's surface is uninhabitable due to an overwhelming attack. A group of survivors living in the Rocky Mountains have discovered a way to send a man back in time with the hope of preventing the attack. Of course, the man who volunteers also has an ulterior motive in that he also plans to save the love of his life in the process.
While the script for the sci-fi movie, which will be written by Dave Andron sounds cool enough, it's far from an original idea. There's no word on when the studio plans to start production on The Runner or whether Forster is on board yet, but rest assured with all the parties involved it's going to be big.
