Lately everyone in director Jose Padilha's Elite Squad films have been reaping the benefits of being involved with the internationally popular series. Padilha himself was recently offered the chance to helm the RoboCop reboot, and today Latino Review reports that the star of the Brazilian crime thrillers, Wagner Moura will be added to the cast of Neil Blomkamp's Elysium as a villain.

Moura will join the star studded cast of Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and Sharlto Copley in Blomkamp's follow-up to his previous sci-fi hit of District 9. Early reports from THR regarding Moura's role indicated that he'll play a villain "described as having a crazy sense of humor", while Damon will play an ex-con.
Blompkamp has described Elysium, set 150 years in the future, as " totally original", "very violent, and very unique."
"It is absolutely another science fiction film, quite different from District 9, but some of the blending of genres and the tone might be within the same realm," Blomkamp said.
Elysium is easily the next film I'm the most excited about seeing more updates and developments from. District 9 was a brilliant movie, so there's no doubt in my mind that Blomkamp will make the follow-up even better, especially with Damon headlining the movie.
Elysium is slated to start production in late spring with the hopes of releasing it in theaters during the 2012 holidays.
