Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 3:16AM Diane Lane Says New Superman Will Once Again Cover Origin
Lane told E Online:
"I read the script under lock and key. I was locked in a room with the script and was only allowed three hours with it. I nailed it into my memory. I'm really excited. I'm really not allowed to talk much about it, I think, but it does cover the entire range of years, from infancy on."
Your mileage may vary, but honestly I don't see the point of rehashing the origin story. For one thing, we all already known Superman's backstory - it's a pointless waste of time to retell it. Films like X-Men 2, Spider-man 2 and The Dark Knight have shown us that these superhero movies are more interesting once you get past the back story and into the action. Plus, I think Smallville has pretty much milked every last drop from the Clark Kent "coming of age" saga, so why even bother?

As General Zod will be in Man of Steel, they have to include Non, Ursa, Faora, Quex-Ul, Nam-Ek and Aethyr-Ka.
Leighton Meester, Jessica Szohr or Evan Rachel Wood will probably play Ursa.
One of the following actors will probably play Perry White:
Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, Ricky Gervais, Simon Pegg, Eddie Izzard, Rowan Atkinson, Owen Wilson, Jack Black, Rob Schneider, Jeremy Piven, Mike Myers, Jim Carrey, William Shatner, Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin, Tim Allen, Chevy Chase, John Goodman, Billy Connolly, Danny DeVito, Robin Williams, George Lopez, John Cleese, Steve Coogan.
We should expect one of the following rising young actors to play Jimmy Olsen:
Shia LaBeouf, Anton Yelchin, Zac Efron, Ed Westwick, Penn Badgley, Chad Michael Murray, Adam Brody, Thomas Dekker, Chace Crawford, Emile Hirsch, James Lafferty, Michael Cera.
I think overall the filmmaker has to give us new villains and new stories in this new Superman film series. They should have utilised the villains that weren’t included in the previous films. Lex Luthor and General Zod should have been left out of the movies for a while.
I wasn’t going to say anything else but I’m not sure I can anymore. People seem to get upset. I hate everything about this movie, I hate the title. And please, no one say it worked with TDK not putting Batman in the title. This is totally different. TDK was a second film. This isn’t. It seems like they don’t want the name Superman in the title because they think it comes with a certain stigma.
All good actors. All miscast.
And Zod?!?! Really? Relaunching a franchise with a tired villain. Great.
The 60's TV series and Time Burton's movies were THE representation of Batman in audience's conscious up to the 90's, so we see now why Nolan went back and completely retold the origin to more establish HIS series as being a VERY different interpretation. They're definitely doing this with Superman after reading this news and given how well that worked with Batman, that's a wise move. Movies are made for the audience of their time. "Superman: The Movie" was great for it's malaise era 70's time. It still has it's influence, being the first big-budget superhero movie that launched all the ones to follow. But "Superman Returns" - done very much in the same style as that first and second movie - showed that the appeal just hasn't carried on in a subsequent era of superhero movies. So yes, it's definitely time for a revision of the whole mythos. Yeah, I'd like them to make a comic book movie that feels like you're just picking up issue 856, or whatever - and there ARE movies that have done that - and they weren't very successful either. They have to fit it into a movie formula for a new movie generation, so the key is going to be how much they surprise us with the differences from previous iterations while being solidly grounded in the established mythos we already know.
