The good news is that former Punisher star Thomas Jane will be making a much needed return to the big screen as a cop in the upcoming action movie Headshot, according to Joblo. The unfortunate side to this story is that Jane will be co-starring with former Hollywood heavy weight Sylvester Stallone in the movie.
In Headshot, Jane will play an NYPD detective who forms an unlikely alliance with a hitman (Stallone), after the two witness their respective partners get gunned down by a common enemy. Last week, it was reported that veteran action film director Walter Hill will helm this project with a plan to rewrite the script that was previously penned by Alessandro Camon. A script which Jane described as "fantastic".
During a podcast with Joblo, Jane admitted his excitement regarding the dynamic between the two main characters.
"He's a hitman, I'm a cop, and we're just opposite in every f*cking way, and we need each other to get this job done," Jane said. "And of course I'm like, 'As soon as this job's over, I'm going to take you to jail, you know, you're a killer."
Like I mentioned earlier, it's cool to see Jane join the cast for an action flick again. It's been too long since he wowed me with his performances as Mickey Mantle in 61* and as Frank Castle in The Punisher. I'm also tired of only seeing him in the role of the well endowed high school gym teacher/man whore on the HBO series Hung.
I don't mean to come across as anti-Stallone. I'm just not a fan of the old school action stars anymore , minus Bruce Willis. After seeing that awful Expendables movie last summer, my opinion isn't likely to change regarding future Stallone movies. Fortunately, Hill has made more than his fair share of solid action movies, so I'm holding out a little hope that Headshot will at least be an entertaining 90-minutes of shoot 'em up.
